Where the Wall Meets the Window

Siding and windows do the same job: keep rain, wind and humidity out of the house while letting light in. Because they meet at every opening, a failure in one almost always shows up in the other. A window that leaks usually has a flashing problem in the wall around it, and siding that rots at the corner often has a gap at a window trim.

Many homes in Hampton and the nearby cities mix materials. Brick is common on the front and sides, with vinyl on additions and rear walls and shingle-style siding on bay windows and gables, like the one pictured here. Each junction between materials is a place where good detail work matters.

This category covers three services: siding repair and replacement, window replacement in existing openings and window installation for new openings, sunrooms and additions. We often combine them into one project so each opening is flashed once and done right.

Before You Hire for Siding & Windows

Ask about flashing

How each opening is flashed is the most important part of the job, and it is invisible when finished.

Match materials carefully

Siding and window frames should suit the house. Mismatched profiles stand out.

Look for rot first

Soft trim or sheathing around openings should be repaired before new products go in.

Combine the work when you can

Doing siding and windows together saves scaffolding time and avoids opening the wall twice.

Why 757 Contracting for Siding and Windows

We work as carpenters on the outside of homes. That means looking at the framing, sheathing and flashing as well as the product you are buying. It is the unglamorous detail work that keeps a house dry.

You can hire us for a single window or a full exterior package. Either way, you get a written quote and a walkthrough when the work is done.

Siding & Windows FAQ

Why are siding and windows grouped together?

They meet at every opening. Most leaks around windows are really siding or flashing problems, and most siding failures start near windows and doors. Doing both together lets us flash each opening correctly once.

Should I replace windows before or after siding?

Ideally at the same time. When siding is open, installing windows is easier and flashing can be integrated properly. If only the windows are being replaced, we work with the existing siding or brick and seal carefully.

What about brick houses? Do they need siding?

Brick houses typically do not need siding on the brick itself, but many have siding or shingle panels on bay windows, gables, additions and the rear of the house. Those areas need maintenance and are part of this category.

What is the difference between replacement and installation windows?

Replacement windows swap into an existing frame; installation work covers new openings, additions and sunrooms. We describe each on its own page, and the right one depends on your wall.
