Window Installation in Hampton, VA
New openings, sunrooms and additions fitted with windows that are flashed, insulated and trimmed to keep Hampton Roads weather outside.

Installation Details Decide Whether a Window Leaks
A window is a hole in the wall, and the installation is what keeps rain, wind and bugs out of it. A good window installed badly will leak; a modest window installed well can last for decades. The difference is in the details you never see once the trim is on: the sill pan, the flashing tape, the shims and the foam around the frame.
This page is about those details and about the jobs where installation is more than a swap: new openings in existing walls, windows for a sunroom or addition, and units that replace sliding doors. Each of those needs framing, a properly sized header and a wall that is prepared for the product, whether the siding is brick, vinyl or shingle.
The sunroom on this page has a row of tall windows under a gabled roofline. Large windows like those depend on framing that is square and a header that carries the roof, which is carpentry before it is glass.

When You Need New-Opening Window Installation
A dark room that needs more light
Adding or enlarging a window can change how a room feels more than almost any finish.
An addition or sunroom
Large glass areas require framing that is designed for them and installation timed with roofing and siding.
A sliding door that is worn out
Replacing it can mean a new frame, trim and sometimes a different unit entirely.
A change of siding or exterior
It is cheaper to install new windows when the siding is open than to go back later.
Window openings that were poorly done before
Gaps, no flashing and stuffed rags in the frame are all signs of a poor install that needs redoing.
How We Install Windows
- Plan the openingWe confirm the size, the structure above the opening and how the wall finish (brick, siding or stucco) will be handled.
- Frame and flashOpenings are framed or repaired, a sloped sill is formed and flashing is applied from the sill up.
- Set the windowThe unit is set plumb, level and square, shimmed and fastened according to the manufacturer.
- Insulate and sealLow-expansion foam fills the gap around the frame and exterior sealant goes in the right joints.
- Finish the trimInterior casing and exterior trim are installed and painted or caulked.
What Affects Window Installation Cost
Installation is priced separately from the windows, because it depends on the wall and the opening.
- New opening versus existing opening. Cutting a new opening needs framing and a header, and in brick a lintel, so it costs more than replacing a unit.
- Wall type. Brick, vinyl siding and stucco each need different flashing and finish work.
- Window size and weight. Large units need more hands, equipment and careful handling.
- Interior and exterior trim. Rebuilt casing and trim add materials and finishing time.
- Access. Second-story and tight-access windows add time.
Why 757 Contracting Installs Windows Differently
We build and remodel, so we install windows as carpenters. We check the framing, build the flashing in the right order and finish the trim, instead of leaving you with a window in a rough opening.
If the installation touches the roof, siding or interior walls, we handle those too. That is the point of hiring a general contractor.
Where We Offer Window Installation

Window Installation FAQ
What is the difference between replacement and new-construction windows?
Replacement windows fit inside an existing frame or opening. New-construction windows have a nailing fin and are installed when the wall is open, as in an addition or when we rebuild an opening. Which one you need depends on whether the frame and wall around it are sound.
Can you add a window where there is not one now?
Yes, in most walls. Adding a window means cutting an opening, building a header that carries the load above it, framing the sides, flashing and finishing both the inside and the outside. In a brick wall it also means cutting masonry and adding a lintel. We check the structure first.
How do you keep water out around a newly installed window?
Water protection is layered: flashing tape at the sill, sides and head, a sloped sill, sealant and trim detailing that sheds water away from the wall. Most leaks around windows come from missing or reversed flashing, not from the window itself.
What about the windows in a sunroom or addition?
Sunroom windows are larger and often tall, so framing, headers and window support matter even more. We coordinate the window order with the framing and roofing so the glass fits the finished opening.
Do I need a permit to install windows?
Replacing windows in existing openings is often handled differently from creating a new opening or changing the size of an opening. We tell you what your city requires and handle the paperwork when it applies.
